Prep/1 Report

What a challenging but exciting start to 2026 it has been in the Prep/1 cohort this year. The students have become very familiar with our classroom and school routines and expectations. There has been a lot of learning happening and students has shown an impressive level of growth in all areas. Check out some of the learning our wonderful students have been taught this term!
In Reading this term, students:
- identified the different core parts of a book
- recognised the names and sounds of different letters of the alphabet (satpinmf)
- learnt about where to start reading sentences from and where to end
- learnt how to sound out the sounds in words and how to blend those sounds together.
In Writing this term, students:
- began learning how to write recounts
- learnt how to use the sounding out strategy to spell three letter words
- practiced writing their name.
In Maths this term, students:
- learnt how to count to ten, and above
- made numbers to ten using different materials, including teddies, counters and ten frames
- learnt how to count objects one by one
- learnt how to subitise a small collection of objects between one and ten (know a number without counting)
- found numbers within our school environment
In Inquiry this term, students:
- practiced the different classroom routines and transitions
- learnt about the important people in the prep and school community they can go to for help
- identified healthy foods and behaviours
- learnt about our main school values and the kinds of behaviours that can help them display those values
In Social and Emotional Learning this term, students:
- learnt to identify core emotions using specific physical attributes
- learnt how to ask for help
- learnt what they can do at school when they are feeling sad, angry, or scared
In Auslan his term, students:
- learnt about what Auslan is and who uses it
- have practised the signs for hello, good, the alphabet, the colours and more!
