Reading

This term in Reading, our focus will be on building students’ confidence, accuracy, and understanding as readers. Students will practice solving words using a range of strategies, as well as monitoring and self-correcting to ensure what they read makes sense. We will also work on adjusting reading strategies depending on the text and purpose, and maintaining fluency so reading sounds smooth, expressive, and meaningful. For comprehension, students will develop skills in analysing text structure and language features to understand how texts are organised and how authors communicate ideas. They will also practice synthesising, combining information from texts with their own thinking to deepen understanding.

Writing

This term in Writing, students will explore two key text types: Exposition and Narrative. When learning about exposition, students will develop their ability to clearly state opinions, support their ideas with reasons and evidence, and use persuasive language techniques to influence their reader. In their imaginative writing unit, students will create engaging Science Fiction and Fantasy texts, focusing on developing creative ideas, descriptive language, and well-structured narratives. Across both genres, students will continue building their skills in planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing to strengthen their confidence and effectiveness as writers.

Maths

This term in Maths, students will focus on developing their understanding of measurement, fractional thinking, and multiplicative thinking. In measurement, they will explore length, weight and capacity using appropriate units and tools, and learn how to estimate and compare measurements. Through fractional thinking, students will deepen their understanding of fractions as parts of a whole, on number lines, and in real-world contexts. In multiplicative thinking, they will strengthen their skills in multiplication and division, learning to recognise patterns, solve problems efficiently, and apply strategies to real-life situations. Across all areas, students will be encouraged to explain their reasoning, choose effective strategies, and build confidence in their mathematical thinking.

SEL

This term in Social and Emotional Learning, students will develop their understanding of how personal and social contexts can influence emotions, behaviours, and responses. They will explore a range of strategies to support both themselves and others, learning to select and justify appropriate approaches while considering cause and effect in different situations. Students will also focus on building and maintaining respectful relationships, with an emphasis on understanding and valuing individual, social, and cultural differences. In collaborative activities, they will reflect on their own contributions and the contributions of others, developing skills in teamwork, communication, and thoughtful self-reflection.
