On the weekend of 26-27 July 2025 one of our students participated in the Queensland Schools Orienteering Championships held in the Kingaroy and Wondai areas. Over 120 students from all around Queensland took part in three events: a Sprint Distance event around the Kingaroy Schools, Relay and Individual Long Distance bush events at Wondai State Forest. Outstanding results included:
AGE GROUP | FIRST NAME | LAST NAME | SPRINT | RELAY | LONG | QSOC TEAM |
Jun Boys Champ | Thomas | C | 2 | 3 | Y |
Orienteering is a competitive international sport that combines racing with navigation. Participants use very detailed maps to select routes and navigate through diverse and often unfamiliar terrain in the fastest time. Besides needing excellent map reading skills, an orienteer needs great concentration and the ability to make quick decisions about the best route under pressure while running at high speed.
Results from these events were used to select a team of 20 students to represent Queensland at the Australian Schools Orienteering Championships in Brisbane in September/October. Thomas has qualified for the Queensland Schools Orienteering Team....well done Thomas!
Our next Year 9 Gala Day will be held on Tuesday 4th November (Week 5, Term 4) at the South Pine Sporting Complex. This day will provide an opportunity for all students in Year 9 to participate in a day of sport, based on participation with peers. It is a fun day of social sport with their friends whilst playing against the other high schools in our districts.
Sports on offer to the students are mixed beach volleyball, basketball, netball, 7 a side soccer, mixed touch and ultimate disk.
If students opt to stay at school on this day, their classes are running as normal. For further information about the day please visit the Sports Hall staffroom.
