Hello and welcome to this edition of our fortnightly newsletter.

This week I visited a couple of school assemblies. At our junior school assembly, I reminded students about what they bring into our school and our community, both to and from school. As principal, I’m often the first to hear the great news about our students, but also the first to hear when things don’t go so well.

My reminder to students was to think about their actions inside and outside of school, and to reflect on their own values, their family values, and our school values. Unlike when I was growing up, today’s world has phones, CCTV, and people ready to take photos when kids are not at their best. I’d appreciate your support in giving your young people general reminders about this. We know our Gap State High School students come from wonderful homes with supportive parents and carers, but as kids, they sometimes need that extra reminder.

The other assembly I attended was the final year-level assembly for our Year 12s. What a joy it was to see them in their jerseys, listening to Mr. Clark for the very last time at a school assembly. This week they have done an amazing job, and I’m incredibly proud of this cohort. I’ll put my neck on the line and say they are probably the best cohort we’ve had come through- respectful, dignified, and following the leadership of their teachers while showing fantastic spirit in their final week.

To all the parents preparing their Year 12s for external exams, good luck. It’s a challenging time, but we’ll get through it together, and I look forward to seeing everyone at graduation.

Thank you.
