E-scooters and e-bikes

Schools and parents can now access resources to better understand the rules for e-scooters and e-bikes.

Articles, posters and brochures outline age limits, device restrictions and safety requirements. With school-aged children at increased risk of injury from e-mobility devices, these resources support raising awareness and encouraging safe use in your school community.

Host an International Student: Make a Difference in Their Life and Yours

At The Gap State High School, we are currently seeking welcoming families to join our International Homestay Program and host students from countries such as China, South Korea, Brazil, and Thailand. This is a fantastic opportunity to engage in cultural exchange, support a young person’s educational journey, and make lasting connections.

By hosting an international student, you will have the opportunity to share your culture, help them settle into life in Australia, and be part of their exciting school experience. Hosting is not only rewarding for the student but also for you and your family, as you gain insight into another culture and form a meaningful relationship that lasts far beyond their stay.

We are looking for families who offer warmth, care, and a safe environment, where the focus is on supporting students as they adapt to life in Australia.

Key Details:

  • Weekly Allowance: $369 (to assist with hosting costs)
  • Duration: 1 month to 3 years
  • Age Range: 14-17 years
  • Countries of Origin: China, South Korea, Brazil, Thailand
  •

If you are interested in becoming a homestay family and providing a caring environment for an international student, we’d love to hear from you!

For more information and to apply, please contact Emi, our International Homestay Coordinator, at (07) 35113877 / 0499765434 or esuzu0@eq.edu.au.

We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to the International Homestay Program.

Next Step- State School Leavers Survey (for families of 2024 leavers)

The Department of Education is inviting former Queensland state school students to take part in the Next Step – State School Leavers survey. We’re asking our community to please share this with parents, carers and siblings of 2024 leavers to help spread the word.

Who can participate?Students who left a Queensland state school in 2024 in any of the following circumstances:

  • left during Year 10 or Year 11, or

Why this matters: Next Step helps the department understand the post-school pathways of young people-study, training, apprenticeships and employment-and identifies how schools and systems can better support transitions.

When: The 2025 survey opened 18 August 2025.

Eligible students will receive a letter soon with instructions on how to complete the survey.

What families need to know

  • Participation is voluntary, but strongly encouraged.
  • The survey takes only a short time to complete.
  • Insights contribute to statewide improvement for current and future students.
  • The 2024 Early School Leavers report is available on the Next Step website for those interested in previous findings.
