Year 10 Outdoor Education - Ted Errey Hike

Year 10 Outdoor Education students completed the 12 km Ted Errey Nature Circuit. Students applied their map-reading skills, particularly their understanding of topography, which proved valuable as they navigated the hike. They walked to the top of the Upper Stony Creek Reservoir, recognised as Australia’s first concrete dam. Following significant rainfall, the reservoir was almost at full capacity, providing an impressive sight for students.

The students experienced a diverse range of landscapes, from volcanic plains characterised by red, dry and rocky soils, native grass trees and slender trees recovering from bushfires to areas featuring Manna gums, wattle trees, and native orchids. Along the way, they also encountered and navigated several flowing streams, further highlighting the variety of environments within the area.

Student Reflections:

I found the hike great! To be able to see the changing environment around me as I went on the hike from the rocky, infertile ground at the top of the hills dominated by grasstrees to the wet lowlands. We got to use the foot hygiene stations to stop the spread of cinnamon fungus, an invasive species

The Brisbane Ranges outdoor ed hike was really enjoyable, although there was a lot of rocky and steep parts that were tricky to get up, the scenery was so pretty and the different lookouts made it worth it
