The Senior School Library Takes Centre Stage for Book Week
Article by Paige Witcombe, Library Leader – Yirramboi Campus
Over the past few weeks, we have highlighted how each of our libraries is celebrating this year’s Book Week, and now it’s the Senior School Library’s turn!
CBCA Book Week officially begins on Saturday 22 August and runs until Friday 28 August, and the Senior School Library is getting into the spirit of the theme “Symphony of Stories” with a week of fun, creative activities celebrating books, music and storytelling.
Throughout the week, students can match teachers with their favourite books and contribute their favourite song lyrics to our musical sheet-music display. There will also be a different activity or competition each day, with plenty of opportunities to get creative, test their literary knowledge and win prizes!
Monday – Book Cover Creation Competition
Students can design their own book cover using templates and a range of creative materials. They might redesign a favourite book or create a cover for a completely new story – we can’t wait to see what they come up with!
Tuesday – Magnet Making
Students can create their own bookish magnet to take home, featuring a favourite book, character or design.
Wednesday – Character “Who Am I?”
How well do our students know their book characters? They’ll need to use a series of clues to work out Who Am I? and identify the mystery character.
Thursday – Scavenger Hunt & Photobooth Challenge
Students can put their problem-solving skills to the test with our “Crack the Code Scavenger Hunt”. There will also be a special Book Week photo station, complete with costumes and props. Students can recreate a favourite book moment, recreate a book cover or try a “bookface” by holding a book cover in place of their face. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative attempts!
Friday – Lyric Writing
To finish the week, students will explore the connection between books, music and storytelling through a fun lyric-writing activity inspired by songwriting techniques.
We look forward to seeing the Senior School Library come alive as our students read, create, share and celebrate the stories that make up our own Symphony of Stories.
Happy Book Week! 🎶📚
