SBAT (School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship)
Some of our VPC/VM students are participating in a Baking SBAT this year. As part of the program, the students attend a theory session at TSC on Wednesdays, and every Friday this term, they have been going to the Werribee Football Club for the practical portion of the course sharing a very small kitchen.
Over the past few weeks, the students have made cookies, truffles, greek yogurt pizza, and, most recently, a variety of shaped breads and flavors, including raisin bread. They also prepared scalloped potatoes and hand-cut chips. This week, the students also had the opportunity to work with two professional chefs who came from Burwood to collaborate with them.
After cooking, the students portioned, labeled, and stored their products. They then cleaned the kitchen before preparing to leave for the day.
Next term, we will be holding the practical sessions in our onsite kitchen on Fridays, which provides a larger space for the students to engage more fully in the activities. As you can see in the photos, the students are thoroughly enjoying this opportunity, and who knows – they could be the next generation of bakers at Bakers Delight!
