Student Report

Hello to everyone in our school community! We are very excited to introduce ourselves to you for the first time in 2025, and share with you all the amazing journey the Student Body have had in the first term of the Year!

Term 1 of 2025 has been a busy, but rewarding and engaging beginning to our 2025 school year, with a lot of progress being made in creating meaningful connections within our College. The students and staff of our school have worked hard this term to foster engagement in our students and make Tarneit Senior College a place where everyone is excited to come every day.

As your Student Body Presidents, we have worked hard to establish our 2025 Student Council; our new team of Student Leaders who are all determined to work together to improve the College experience for every student at our school; we have now got 14 fellow students who will work alongside us to build a school where engagement, learning and community are the focus of all of our activities, programs and relationships. Together, we have begun to work as a team, including at the 2025 Student Leadership Conference, to begin shaping our goals for improving the experience of all of the school community this year. We would like to congratulate those students on joining our team and we are excited to bring the visions of our Student Leaders, as well as all of our fellow students, to life in 2025.

We have had so many events take place at the College this year focusing on making school a place where we feel like we belong; just recently, we have celebrated Harmony Week with a list of events every day that celebrate the cultural diversity of our school, with students representing their cultural background through their clothing, musical performances and messages that promote the best of our multicultural country. During this week, we came together on Athletics Day, promoting the sporting achievements of our peers in an inclusive environment that gave all students, regardless of their physical ability, the chance to participate and represent their school Houses. We have also seen our students travel outside of the College to represent us in a variety of inter-school sporting events, showing the wider community that the students at Tarneit Senior College are a fantastic team when we work together.

The College has had a variety of excursions that promote learning and growth in new and exciting ways as well, including new opportunities such as travelling to the Avalon Airshow, and even to the Formula One Grand Prix, to explore career pathways that many students might not otherwise have considered. We’ve also seen more classes begin to incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture into what is taught, from Indigenous Literature being shared with students, to studying content using Indigenous teaching methods, to even having students learn directly from Koorie Elders - it is excellent to see Tarneit Senior College become one of the leading Colleges in embracing First Nations culture and how this can be used to teach content in different ways that are inclusive for everyone.

We have also been introduced by the Teaching and Learning Team at our College to new ways to prepare all of the students to succeed in their studies. At the beginning of the year, all of the Year 11s and 12s had their own day of activities and workshops designed to equip us with motivational and study support skills that will make our academic goals easier to achieve, and how to care for ourselves when we are struggling to keep up with our school work. It was wonderful to watch our peers slowly realise that success is achievable in their lives, and see them empowered to begin making positive changes to their study habits and personal wellbeing, so that they can begin pursuing their dreams for the last two years of their school journey.

Thank you to the staff at our College for their work in preparing all of the activities this term and making our experience a more fun one. A big thank you as well to our peers for being an engaged, amazing Student Body to represent and support - and congratulations for making it through a successful first term! See you soon!

- Erasti and Nyapath,
