Year 10 News

All Year 10 students participated in work experience this term. To all our students who completed their work experience placements, well done! And to all our students who gained employment through this experience, congratulations!
It was rewarding and heart-warming to see the smiles on faces and enthusiasm to share stories when staff visited students in their workplace. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with a few lucky students gaining employment because of the work ethic and attitude in the workplace!
Work experience is a vital part of our Year 10 curriculum, as it gives students the opportunity to experience work life and explore different industries and jobs before making decisions about future pathways. It gives our students a better understanding of workplace expectations and future career options.
We would like to thank all our local employers who made this possible and provided opportunities for our students; without their support, a program like this would not be possible.
Thanks also needs to be given to Tayla Watson, our Careers Advisor for all her work in supporting our students throughout the entire process, your work is truly appreciated. Also, thanks to the staff who supported our students and visited them at their workplaces. Again, without your support, a program like this would not be possible. Our focus now shifts to future pathway opportunities, and students will be considering and selecting their preferred pathway for 2027.
2027 Pathways
Now that work experience is complete, our focus shifts, and students begin preparing for Course Counselling, where they start to explore their preferred pathway and subject options for 2027. Course Counselling will formally take place in Term 3; however, conversations with students are already underway, with talks by the VCE-VCE and VCE-VM Leaders held earlier this month.
Students’ future aspirations will direct them to either
- Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or
- Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major (VCEVM)
Once students have indicated which pathway they prefer (at this stage) they are given instructions in "Becoming Familiar with the Kurnai VCE/VCEVM Handbook" which outlines subject descriptors.
Job Skills Expo
All Year 10 students will attend the JobSkills Expo held on Tuesday 29th of July, which offers students engaging, hands-on activities, advice, and information about the skills, jobs, and industries that make up our regional workforce. In addition to static displays, the JobSkills Expo features a range of short seminars delivering practical information and guidance for students.
Please ensure consent is provided on Compass if you have not already done so.
