As Semester 1 draws to a close, it provides a valuable opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the many achievements of our students and staff throughout the year so far. I am incredibly proud of how the semester has unfolded, particularly the positive way students have engaged in their learning both in the classroom and through the many opportunities available beyond it, including camps, sporting events, excursions, and special activities.

One of the highlights for our campus this semester has been the continued growth in student enrolments. Since the beginning of the year, we have welcomed a number of new students and families to our community, reflecting the strength of our programs and the positive culture that exists across our campus.

Positive Engagement in the Attitudes to School Survey

At Kurnai College, we are committed to fostering a learning environment where every student feels supported, connected, and empowered to succeed. Earlier this term, our Year 7–12 students participated in the annual Attitudes to School Survey, providing valuable feedback about their learning experiences, wellbeing, and sense of belonging at school.

We were pleased with the level of engagement shown by students throughout the survey process. Their thoughtful and honest responses will help us better understand what we are doing well and identify areas where we can continue to grow and improve.

The feedback collected will be carefully reviewed by our leadership team and staff as we plan future initiatives aimed at enhancing student wellbeing, engagement, learning outcomes, and school culture.

We thank all students who participated and appreciate the important role they play in shaping the future direction of our school.

Celebrating Reconciliation Week

Learning, Reflection and Connection

During National Reconciliation Week, our school community came together to reflect on the importance of reconciliation and the ongoing journey towards greater understanding, respect, and unity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

Reconciliation is an ongoing commitment, and we are proud of the way our students approached these learning opportunities with curiosity, respect, and open-mindedness. Through continued learning and reflection, we strengthen our commitment to building a school community where all voices are valued and respected.

Year 9/10 Outdoor Education Camp Success

Our Year 9 and 10 Outdoor Education students have just returned from a successful camp, where they had the opportunity to apply their skills, resilience, and teamwork in an authentic outdoor environment.

Throughout the camp, students took part in a variety of activities that promoted independence, environmental awareness, and personal challenge. From hiking scenic trails and preparing meals outdoors to setting up campsites and navigating unfamiliar terrain, students embraced each experience with enthusiasm and determination.

Staff and students were very happy to have had some pretty good weather to enjoy the outdoors in.

Experiences such as these play an important role in building leadership, independence, and personal growth, and we congratulate all students on the positive way they represented themselves and our school throughout the camp.

Looking Ahead to Semester 2

As we prepare for Semester 2, there are many exciting opportunities ahead for our students. We look forward to a range of camps, excursions, sporting events, leadership opportunities, and learning experiences that will continue to support student growth both inside and outside the classroom.

Over the next two weeks, two significant camp experiences are also on the horizon. Our Year 9 students will be heading to Melbourne for their City Camp in Week 9, where they will have the opportunity to explore key cultural, educational, and historical landmarks while developing independence and important life skills in a real-world setting. This experience is always a highlight of the Year 9 program and provides valuable opportunities for students to strengthen connections with their peers and broaden their understanding of the world around them.

Following this, our Year 8 students will travel to Phillip Island for their annual camp experience. The camp will provide students with opportunities to challenge themselves, build resilience, develop teamwork skills, and participate in a range of engaging outdoor and educational activities. We look forward to hearing about the experiences and memories created during both camps.

Semester 2 also provides students with an opportunity to set new goals, build on their achievements from the first half of the year, and continue striving for personal excellence.

We encourage all students to maintain strong attendance, remain focused on their learning, and take advantage of the many opportunities available to them.

On behalf of all staff, I would like to thank our students, families, and wider community for their ongoing support throughout Semester 1. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break and look forward to welcoming students back refreshed and ready for another successful semester.
