What a busy term it has been for Year 8s! As we approach the back end of the term, it has been great to reflect on several accomplishments across year 8, as well as the general climate for learning.

This term, Year 8s have participated in many sports, provided meaningful feedback about their schooling experience and set and accomplished goals. At the moment, students are finishing their Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) before we head off to Phillip Island Adventure Resort for camp.

Around Year 8

Sports

In Week 8, Boys and Girls Soccer headed to Traralgon to compete in the Wellington Region Soccer. All teams showed great resilience and demonstrated our pillars of engagement and relationship, even coming away with some wins!

Electives

Students are finishing the final hours of their Semester One electives. I was lucky enough to jump into cooking this week and see the skills students have learned over the last 18 weeks. No raw, burnt or unsavoury food in sight! Students will move into new electives, that they selected at the end of 2025, in Semester Two.

Relationships & Resilience

In R&R, Year 8s have been working on several skills and relationship building, such as goal setting, identifying trusted adults at Kurnai and camp planning. Students were also given the opportunity to share feedback on how to improve our school and Year 8, allowing for student agency and collective decision-making.

Year 8 Team Building Morning

This week, students were rewarded with a team-building and activity morning for meeting our chronic goals. At the start of the term, students were given goals around KPAs and minor/major behaviour incidents. The cohort was successful in this goal, so they spent the morning participating in team-building tasks before moving on to an activity of their choosing.

To begin the term, students who received an LBU of 3.5 were awarded with a hot chip lunch. This continues to be a nice tradition to celebrate success.

The new Year 8 Locker Bay has officially started! This has been a long-awaited project that will provide Year 8 students will new lockers and spaces. Year 8 students are very excited to move into this space sometime soon.

Year 8 Camp

This year, Year 8s will venture to Phillip Island Adventure Resort between the 24th-26th of June. Students will participate many activities including giant swing, double flying fox, laser tag, high ropes, campfire cooking, team rescue, archery, mini golf and more!

As we get closer to camp, a few important notes to highlight

  • Students must bring a packed lunch for Wednesday the 24th of June
  • Packing lists have been provided and can be picked up from the Year 8 office.
  • If your child takes medication, you will need to fill out a medication authority form. Students have collected these and can also be picked up from the front office.

KPAs

As in previous years, we will be continuing the use of Kurnai Positive Acknowledgements (KPA’s).

This term Year 8s have currently achieved 3657 KPAs! This is a spectacular job. The current highest KPAs earners for the year are:
