Welcome to Week 8 of Term 2!

It has been a busy and exciting term so far, with camp being a recent highlight for our Year 7 students. It has been wonderful to see students settled into the year and engaging positively with school life.

As we approach the end of Semester 1, students will be participating in a number of assessments over the coming weeks. These tasks assist our teachers in making informed judgements about student progress. For our Year 7 students, these assessments provide an opportunity to demonstrate their achievements in relation to the Victorian Curriculum.

It is important that all students put in their best effort across CATs and other learning tasks, as this allows teachers to gain a clear and accurate picture of what each student has achieved. We also ask that families prioritise attendance over these final weeks, as teachers work to complete assessments and semester reports.

As the weather cools down, a friendly reminder that students are not to wear non-school uniform jackets to school. If your family requires any assistance in sourcing warm clothing in line with our uniform policy, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Learning Behaviour Updates (LBUs)

Congratulations to the following students who achieved an LBU of 3.8 or above in our third Learning Behaviour Update for the year, earning themselves a well-deserved hot chip lunch during Week 8!

Camp Coolamatong

A huge thank you to all staff who gave up their time to attend our Year 7 Camp this year. A special thank you to Russell White for his tremendous effort in organising the camp, your hard work behind the scenes and whilst on camp made it all possible.

Thank you also to Rachael Dodd, Isabelle Lynch-Berends, Robin Fitzpatrick, Jack Hallson, Courtney Lee, Dee Roberts, Owen Gourley, Cooper Burgess, Tom Kindellan, Peter Townsend, and Reece Malcomson for your dedication in ensuring camp was an enjoyable and memorable experience for all involved.

Students and staff alike had a wonderful time, with sailing proving to be one of the standout highlights of the trip. We are grateful for the commitment of every staff member who made it happen.

On the 19th of May, all the year sevens boarded a bus to Camp Coolamatong, a farm style adventure camp on the Banksia Peninsula, near Lakes Entrance. When we arrived, we eagerly rushed to our cabins to unpack before participating in our first activity. A few of the extremely fun activities we got to experience included: Low ropes, canoeing, sailing, bushcraft/cooking, indigenous session, combat archery and a boat trip to Ocean Grange, where one of the groups even saw a pod of dolphins! We also loved the excellent night activities organised by Mr White. Overall, the camp was a once in a lifetime experience that we will remember for ever.

Thanks to all of our amazing teachers for giving up their time to take us on an amazing trip. By Adelaide 7A

Since returning from camp, we have a large number of lost property items in need of a home! Please take a look at the photos below and if you recognise anything belonging to your child, don't hesitate to get in touch.

School Sport

Boy’s AFL

On the 7th of May the year 7 boys had district footy (Aussie rules) in Sale. We were competing in the Wellington Division which means we played Lavalla and Sale College who we lost to but in the third game they played Maffra and got the win for Kurnai College. Even though it was a wet day we pushed through and managed to get a win under our belt. By Jayden and Kobe

Cross Country

Congratulations to Aussie McCulloch on his outstanding achievement of placing fourth in the Gippsland Cross Country recently, securing a spot at the State Cross Country Championships. Well done also to Mason Hinds, who represented Kurnai College on the day.

Activity Day

On Tuesday 2nd June, our Year 7 cohort visited the Year 12 VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) class at the University Campus during Periods 3 and 4.

Throughout the session, students participated in a range of engaging activities designed and facilitated by the Year 12 VCE VM students. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for our Year 7 students to connect with older peers, develop new skills, and experience a different learning environment.

For the Year 12 VCE VM students, the event served as a valuable leadership opportunity, allowing them to further develop their organisation, communication, teamwork, and facilitation skills. A big thank you to our Year 12 VCE VM students and staff for their enthusiasm and leadership, and to the Year 7 students for their positive participation. The visit was a great success and highlighted the strong sense of community and collaboration within our college
