Music News

This term, 45 of our brilliant JMSS musicians participated in the outstanding NEVR Youth Concert at Hamer Hall. This prestigious event is the premier music showcase of the North Eastern Region, and JMSS students were proudly represented across the Secondary Choir, Concert Band, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra.
Of particular note, Terrence Cheng (Year 12) was selected from students across 47 schools to perform the virtuosic Khachaturian Flute Concerto. Terrence performed brilliantly, receiving both a standing ovation and what quickly became a large fan club of fellow music students from across the region. Congratulations to Terrence and to all students and teachers involved in this fantastic event.
On Wednesday 20th May, the annual Battle of the Bands was held before a captivated audience. The event opened with a huge student-and-staff rock orchestra performance of Golden from K-Pop Demon Hunters. The music teachers are now quietly hoping they may never need to perform that particular work again… A huge thanks to the student Music Executive Team for preparing and running the event so smoothly.
The Term Two Concert will be held tomorrow evening, Thursday 28th May, in the main school building. Students and teachers have been working extremely hard towards this performance, and it promises to be another exciting evening of music-making and community celebration. Well done to everyone involved.
Music Camp is now live and open for registrations via Compass. Please follow the Events tab to sign up. Camp will run from 6-8 August at Safety Beach, Dromana, and remains one of the true highlights of the JMSS Music calendar.
Finally, the Music Department would like to wish all JMSS students the very best for their upcoming exams.
