Year 5 & 6
Around our level
Our Year 5/6 students have thoroughly enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. As part of their studies, they explored the traditions, history, and cultural significance of this important celebration. A highlight for many students was discovering the Chinese Zodiac signs and the personality traits associated with each animal. There was great excitement as students worked out which zodiac animal they were and compared the characteristics with their own personalities. To further connect with the traditions of Chinese New Year, students created beautiful infinity knots. The infinity knot symbolises good luck, prosperity, and long-lasting happiness. Traditionally used as a decoration during celebrations, it represents continuity, harmony, and the wish for good fortune in the year ahead.

In addition, our Year 5/6 students have been busy preparing for GALA Day. They have been practising the team sports they will compete in, including Volleybounce, Cricket, and Hot Shots Tennis. Students have been learning new rules, developing their skills, and building teamwork as they train in their teams. There has been great enthusiasm on the court and field as students grow in confidence and sportsmanship ahead of the big day.

Here are some of the other highlights in the Year 5/6 area over the last two weeks:
