Year 1 & 2
Around our level
This fortnight in Maths lessons, students have been extending their place value skills through a variety of activities. They have used tens frames to count by 10s, and have even created pictures of animals using tens frames.

Writing sessions have focused on our students writing personal recounts about their weekend adventures. We have now started a unit on Narrative Writing, looking into the features of this style of writing and working on creating interesting characters for our future stories.
Every week, we study a different picture storybook. Last week, it was ‘Stellarphant’ by James Foley. This was about an elephant who wanted to be an astronaut, and led to conversations about what the students would like to be! This week’s story is ‘Noni the Pony Rescues a Joey’ by Alison Lester. Look out for very cute clothespeg ponies coming home!

This week, our students learnt about the different states of Australia, identifying Victoria on the map and sharing places of importance within Australia. Our students worked hard to collaboratively colour the map of Victoria!
In Wellbeing, our students focused on showing respect, kindness, and safety in different school settings, discussing why rules matter, and choosing one value to practice throughout the week.
