Year 3 & 4
Around our level
Last week the Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students spent the afternoon with a few members of the Hawthorn Football Club. We were very lucky to have a past Yarra Road student as part of the team that came to visit. The students are to be commended on their behaviour and respect that they showed to the players. We asked many interesting questions, such as:
What pre-game meal do they eat?
What are they planning on doing after their football career?
What football team did they grow up supporting?
We ran a competition about how tall Jamie was - he is 210cm tall!

NAPLAN is coming up for the Year 3s next week, and we have been busy preparing them by doing lots of practice questions. We have been including how to plan our writing, how to add interesting words, and how to persuade the reader by using persuasive words.
In Maths, we have been learning about Fractions. We have identified halves, quarters, and eighths in many different shapes and have started to explore equivalent fractions.

In Reading, we have been looking at making text connections to ourselves and other books, as well as practising our self-monitoring skills to check out understanding of the books we read.
In Writing, we have been exploring persuasive writing, and practised writing sizzling introductions and making a strong and convincing argument.

Students are nominated by their teachers to receive a certificate of acknowledgment. The below students' certificates will be presented at our next assembly.
