Prep

On Thursday we celebrated our Prep Picnic at Warrien Reserve in North Croydon. It was wonderful to see so many Prep families in attendance. It was a great opportunity for both classes to mix, play, and have dinner at the park, and for parents to get to know each other in a friendly and relaxed environment. A big thank you to Mrs Butler, Mrs James, and Mrs Cooper for attending. The weather was perfect and it was so much fun!

In Literacy, we have commenced our formal UFli Lessons, focussing on the short vowel 'A', letters 'S', 'M', and 'T', and CVC words (including 'the', 'I', and 'at').

The children have been learning to write their letters using whiteboards and using their ‘Writing Time’ handwriting books to trace and write the letters using correct start and finish points. We have started to introduce cued articulation for each of the letters and their corresponding sounds. Each letter of the alphabet has a visual cue to help support the children’s learning (connecting the letter name and sound).

In Maths, we have been learning to recognise, order, write the numbers 1 to 5, and learning to subitise and match dot arrangements with their corresponding numbers. We have also introduced the children to ‘Time’, which covers the days of the week and concepts such as morning, afternoon, evening, and today, tomorrow, and yesterday.

In Wellbeing, we have used the ‘Friendology Program’, and have completed the lessons for ‘Inner Ninja, ‘True Colours’, and ‘Making Friends’. The children have been practising their skills, such as introducing themselves, asking someone to play, and including others at recess and lunch times.

In Integrated Studies, we have been learning about different family types and structures, such as nuclear families, blended families, and other types of families. The children recognise that all families are different, special, and unique.

The Preps will now be full time at school and attending on Wednesdays. The School Nurse will be visiting to check hearing and sight this week.

We are very excited and are counting down the days till Wednesday, which is the ‘Teddy Bears Picnic'. More to follow in next week's newsletter. We are looking forward to catching up with our buddies, wearing our pyjamas, and sharing a story.

Just a reminder that School Photos are on Tuesday the 10th of March. Please ensure that photo envelopes are returned so that they can be given to the photographers on the day.
