From the Head of Sport

Congratulations to all those who achieved something great in sport in 2025. Whether it was improving your dribbling skills, making it to a final or beating your personal best, every achievement counts. Setting challenges for ourselves regularly helps us grow and improve. I encourage everyone to take up a new challenge and see what skill you can develop before the second half of the ISA Summer season which begins on 31st January.

During Semester 1 2026, I will be on long service leave and will be handing the reins over to Ms Lauren Wade. Lauren, who has been our MIC of Netball, is an excellent choice to take on this role. If you need to make contact, she can be reached via email at lwade@bmgs.nsw.edu.au or headofsport@bmgs.nsw.edu.au. Lauren will also be available on the school Head of Sport phone: 0451 510 176.

REMINDER

The Christmas break gives us the perfect opportunity to refocus and prepare for a big second half of the season. Training for all BMGS teams will recommence the week before school returns, on Tuesday 27th January and Thursday 29th January. Games begin again on Saturday 31st January, and it is very important that all players are present. Please do not forget that we have a number of coaches travelling from down the mountains and we need to respect the time that they are putting into running trainings.

The upcoming matches will play a major role in determining our final placings, and every performance will count.

Congratulations

Trail Running

Congratulations to Paddy Humby who has found a new passion in trail running. Paddy recently competed in the Narrowneck Trail Run and finished 7th in his age group. This was a great achievement for an athlete so new to the sport. Well done Paddy and good luck with any future events.

Rugby

We see another great achievement by Hunter Costigan who last weekend competed as a member of the U15 NSW Māori rugby union team in the Pasifika Youth Cup. This event is a celebration of rugby, culture, and community. Congratulations Hunter and we look forward to hearing of your achievements at this tournament.

Golf

Tom Curtis continues to improve his golfing handicap and was recently invited to Further play golf in the Blackheath Pro Am. This was a result of the many hours of training that Tom has put into improving his golf. Well done and keep working on that handicap!

2026 Tennis

Tennis in 2026 will be run in a slightly different format. We are going to play Semester based tennis. This will run for 12 weeks and only on a Friday. This will include training sessions and a competition towards the end of the semester. Students will be notified this week if they are part of the Semester 1 program.
