A Word from Justin
Term 2, Week 2 - Friday 2nd May, 2025
Dear Families and Students of OLSC
I am delighted and congratulate the OLSC students on how smoothly they have settled into Term 2. It has been extremely pleasing and a joy to see the OLSC community return with such positivity, enthusiasm, and readiness to learn. Gillian and the prep team were happy to see the Prep Learning Groups already buzzing with curiosity and creativity nas they embark on their second term of school!
Looking ahead, we’re excited for another term filled with rich learning experiences, community events (including the Sacrament of First Eucharist) and other opportunities for our students to shine.
Pope Francis will no doubt hold a very special place in history and was known for his
courage and support of all. He truly showed love for the marginalised in society. As a catholic community and as we wait for the process to appoint a new pope I am very thankful for Pope's Francis' Leadership of the church. He was very progressive in many ways and was a vocal advocate for peace and healing.
Pope Francis strongly urged the church to be a place where love is lived out in action and where all people, especially the marginalised belonged and were heard. He chose compassion over judgement!
I am sure that all of marked ANZAC day and the sacrifices made for us by barve men and women so that we can enjoy the freedom we do today.
Two of our families volunteered to place a wreath at the Werribee Dawn Service. Thanks to the Collins and Johnston families for volunteering and well done Harper and Oscar for representing so well. I was fortunate to visit Gallipoli while on the Principal Pilgrimage to Greece and Turkey recently and was in awe of the sacrifice and bravery of the soldiers that went into battle here.
On Monday we held our annual athletics day. Well done to all of the students for their participation and sportsmanship! Although I was on the 100 metre sprint event and didn't get to see too much of the day, I was told by staff and parents that you all should be very proud of your efforts. Thanks to all of the parents and grandparents that were able to come for the day or even join us for a short while.
Thank you to Michelle for organising the day and for the team of staff that assisted with the set up of the day.
We wish all of the mother's in our community a very happy Mother's Day for Sunday. This includes a shout out to all of the Grandmothers and significant women that play a huge role in our student's lives and are so giving of themselves for the benefit of those in their care.
Happy first mother's day to Sam and Jessica from our staff who are currently on family leave and will enjoy their first mother's day next week!
Mother's Day Events at School
Please join us for a mother's day breakfast on Wednesday morning. On Friday we will hold our annual mother's day stall in the Sports Centre.
Thank you to Donna for all of her work with the students of OLSC. Donna began her Family leave today as she and her husband await the arrival of their baby daughter. The name Justine has been suggested however I am not sure it will get a run!
Donna is known to all of our students and has worked as a prep teacher and taken on the STEM role in 2025. Our stuents have benefited from her warm and caring approach. We wish Donna all the best and look forward to meeting Justine.
This Monday we have a school closure day. The staff will be at school to work with an external presenter on Literacy. School will resume as normal on Tuesday 6th May.
The parish prayer for the new church is below. Please feel free to include this in your family prayers as a new church for the Manor Lakes community would be a great feature of our parish.
If anyone in your family has an achievement that could be shared in the newsletter and is worthy of celebration and acknowledgement, please email Justin to be included in the next newsletter.
