Year 5/6 News

Learning Centre Four

Welcome back to Term 2! We hope you all had a lovely Easter break and enjoyed some quality time with family and friends. It’s been a great start to the term, with students settling back into classroom routines really well. We’ve already had a busy few weeks — from the excitement and team spirit of Athletics Day to the respectful way our students took part in our ANZAC Day Remembrance. It’s been wonderful to see our Year 5/6s back and ready to learn with such a positive attitude. There’s plenty to look forward to this term too, with some exciting excursions coming up and preparations for the school musical already underway!

Athletics Day 2025

On Monday, our Year 5/6 students had an action-packed day out on the oval for Athletics Day! Students moved through 12 different events with their learning groups, showing great enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship all day long. They took part in a range of activities including the 100m and 200m sprints, hurdles, sack race, three-legged race, high jump, shot put, discus, javelin, vortex throw, standing long jump and target toss. It was great to see everyone giving their best effort, encouraging their teammates and celebrating each other’s achievements. A huge thank you to all the staff and parent helpers for making the day run so smoothly – and well done to all our senior students for representing their houses with such pride and positivity!

ANZAC Day 2025

Last Thursday, our Year 5/6 students joined the whole school in a special ANZAC Day commemoration. Students gathered together to listen to a respectful presentation that included prayer, reflection, and the hymn Abide with Me. Many students wore sprigs of rosemary—a traditional symbol of remembrance—pinned to their uniforms. As part of our tribute, each learning group contributed a piece of artwork for a whole-school ANZAC display in the main hallway. Inspired by the local shrine, students thoughtfully created artworks that reflected the spirit of remembrance and respect. Be sure to stop by the hallway to view this meaningful display created by all year levels—it's a powerful showcase of our students' creativity and understanding. Lest We Forget.

Buddies

On Tuesday afternoon, our senior students spent some quality time with their buddies. The Year 5s caught up with their Prep buddies, enjoying the chance to chat, play and continue building their connection through a variety of different outdoor games and sharing how to use equipment properly and safely. The Year 6s were thrilled to reconnect with their buddies from last year, who are now in Year 1. It was a lovely afternoon filled with laughter, conversation and warm moments of care and friendship across the year levels.

Winter Gala

Students have kicked off their first practice sessions for Winter Gala, and there’s a real buzz of excitement in the air! They’ve been getting stuck into a variety of sports including hockey, soccer, basketball, teeball and lacrosse. After a great experience at Summer Gala Day last term, they’re eager to sharpen their skills and work as a team in preparation for the upcoming Winter Gala competition, where they'll once again compete against other schools in the area.
