Year 1/2 News

Learning Centre One
Welcome back to Term 2! It’s been wonderful to see the students return from the holidays refreshed and full of energy, ready to dive into their learning. They've shown fantastic enthusiasm and teamwork, proudly demonstrating our school’s core values in their athletics day. We’re looking forward to an exciting and enriching term ahead!
Literacy
As we returned from the holidays, students in Literacy have been learning how to make personal connections to the texts they read. They have been encouraged to share their own opinions and thoughts about the stories we’ve explored together. In addition, students read texts related to ANZAC Day to help them understand its significance and the values it represents.
Maths
During Maths, students have been developing their understanding of number and place value. They began by exploring whole numbers and used number bonds to investigate how numbers are composed. Building on this, they used partitioning to break down numbers and applied this strategy to solve number problems. Most recently, students explored the concept of finding 'one more' than a two-digit number.
Religion
Before the break, the students learned about the Easter story, and since returning, they have been exploring the resurrection of Jesus in greater depth. They reflected deeply on an image of Jesus by the Sea of Galilee, considering what it made them see, think, and wonder. As part of their learning, they retold the story, shared personal reflections, and took part in a Godly Play session that helped them connect with and express the message Jesus shared.
Wellbeing
During Wellbeing the students have engaged in what the difference is between screen time and green time through their Inform and Empower sessions.
ANZAC Day - Biscuit Making
During the 1st week back at school the students explored ANZAC Day and its meaning. They engaged in a range of activities and made ANZAC biscuits exporing the process and steps on how ANZAC biscuits are made.
Athletics Day
On Monday, the Year 1/2 students took part in the annual Athletics Day at OLSC, and it was an exciting event for all involved. The students displayed incredible enthusiasm and sportsmanship, eagerly cheering on their peers as they competed in various events. Their positive energy and support for one another made the day even more memorable. It was truly a fantastic day filled with fun, teamwork, and community spirit!
