YEAR 7 CAMP

As the Yr 7 students at Mt Eliza Secondary College boarded the bus at 9 am that morning, we were full of excitement - ready to have fun on their only night at camp.

When we arrived, we went into the hall and had a short briefing with the staff and then headed straight into the first activity.

My group went to the flying fox first. We had to climb up a huge hill before reaching the top where we picked a partner and raced them down all the way to the finish! At our second activity we had Teamwork Challenges, although nobody really new how to play the games. However, it was funny during trust falls, when people fell on top of each other!

We had afternoon tea of brownies and fruit. The brownie was really good!

Some of the groups went on the Giant swing, Leap of Faith & Mountain Boarding which turned out to be favourites. Our group’s third activity was rock climbing and this was the activity I enjoyed most. There were two rock walls. The first, a beginner’s wall, and then another intermediate wall. It didn’t look hard, but it was very tricky once you got up there. Altogether there were only two people that made it to the top, Emmy on the Beginner’s Wall and me on the Intermediate Wall, but it helped a lot that your friends were cheering you on.

At dinner we had spaghetti. It tasted… interesting, and after that, we had chocolate mousse that tasted like … coffee. Following that delightful meal, we returned to our cabins for 30 minutes until we were required to an Aboriginal talk right before bed. Everyone was a bit tired and restless by the end of the night’s activity. So, we went back to our cabins and went to bed at 10:30 (of course we did..........).

We woke up after a fun, long night and went for breakfast at 7:30 am. The food was lovely, as always. Then, we organised for our last activity. We had archery and in it we did lots of team competitions of who could get the highest score and then, finally, it was lunch. It was way better than we dreaded. The burgers that you built yourself were the best thing that we ate on the whole camp. We had a few minutes of free time before we got on the bus to go back to school where dastardly NAPLAN awaited us ........
