PRINCIPAL REPORT

Can you believe we are already halfway through May – CRAZY! The college has been a buzz with students experiencing some great opportunities. I am super proud of all students that represented the college in sport, with many of them progressing past the first round. Our Sport staff often receive feedback form community members, facility hosts and other schools what great ambassadors our student are, so well behaved, polite and motivated. Production of Little Mermaid is well on its way, I am still waiting to hear what my role will be…
Our year 9 Outdoor Ed students have been spoiled with amazing adventures being well looked after by new staff members Matt Sires and Josh Hunt- great additions to our staff team.
A reminder that if you have a student participating in ‘special’ events outside of school, to email me and let me know. I love hearing about what the kids are up to!
A big thank you to Micah Davis who looked after the college in my absence last term. I am so fortunate to be surrounded but such high calibre leadership. As a Principal it really does make a difference in enabling me to immerse myself, selfishly, in Long Service Leave, I had a tremendous time in Italy with 3 of my girlfriends.
Cassie Willis, Student Management Assistant Principal is currently on Leave. Sean Hogarth has stepped into this role. Sean is doing a great job, further building relationships with the students and families, while learning lots along the way. Penny Linardos will take on this role for the last 3 weeks of term.
WE ARE 50! We are planning to celebrate 50 years of MESC on Friday 10th October and Saturday 11th October. We will communicate details of each event in coming weeks on our website. Friday evening will be fun and fantastic with an ENTERTAINMENT STAGE showcasing past and present students, speeches from current and past principals, games for the kids to play, some food and memorabilia. Saturday morning will be an opportunity to have cake and wander through the memorabilia. So, SAVE THE DATE!!
During the day on the 10th of October, all students at the college will be participating in a fundraising event, a MOVE-a-THON. It is an opportunity for students and staff to have fun together, while our school and wider community support us in raising funds for a much needed outdoor, undercover area. If we have any parents/carers that may be in a position to donate ‘substantial’ prizes to incentivise the kids to be sponsored, please email info@mesc.vic.edu.au Details about the event will be communicated via COMPASS in term 3.
The students are loving the new pullovers, which is great. Dobsons have let us know they have ordered more and should arrive soon. As we move into winter, please continue to support our sub schools in ensuring students have warm, winter uniforms. Students cannot have visible items that are NOT part of our uniform dress code. Piercings are making a bit of an appearance. Students can ONLY have small nose stud, NO other facial piercings. Please ensure shoes are polishable, lace ups. THANKYOU
On our Curriculum Day, 6th June (student free day), staff will be participating in professional learning around the Science of Learning. The Education Department have engaged with AERO- Australian Education Research Organisation to help support school staff to understand the science behind the introduced Victorian Teaching Learning Model. Staff Professional Practice Day on the 12th of June will provide teachers with release from their scheduled duties (all duties which would have been otherwise scheduled, including teaching) to focus on the improved delivery of high-quality teaching and learning. There will be no regular classes running on this day. Students that attend this day will work independently.
