SAKG

As the weather cools, we have been preparing our winter garden. Students have planted a range of vegetables, including carrots, peas and beetroot, and are learning how different plants grow during the colder months.

We have also begun creating our Mini Market winter recipes, including warrigal greens scrolls and pumpkin soup. Families are welcome to visit the Mini Market every Wednesday at 3:30pm to try some of our delicious snacks!

Thanks to the money raised through the Mini Market in Term 1, we have been able to order new secateurs for the garden program. We are now discussing ways to use our Term 2 revenue, with fencing options for the Zone 4 garden being considered as a future project.

                                    Garden Groups

This week in Garden Class, students worked in their garden groups and practised important gardening skills while learning how to work safely and responsibly.

We began by learning the correct way to put on gardening gloves and revisiting our garden rules to help keep everyone safe and respectful in the garden space.

Students then took part in a variety of activities, including:

  • Snail hunting – carefully searching garden beds for snails and collecting them safely
  • Sweeping and tidying – keeping our garden areas neat and organised
  • Weeding – removing weeds carefully to help our plants grow strong
  • Planting seeds – learning how to plant seeds gently and correctly
  • Claire’s group activities – working together to complete special gardening tasks

A big focus this week was on packing up equipment properly and leaving our garden areas clean and tidy at the end of each session. Students who showed excellent teamwork, responsibility and safe gardening skills received a tick for their great effort.

Well done to all our gardeners!

              Garden Group Volunteers Wanted

Are you interested in helping to maintain the Monty Primary gardens? We are starting a Garden Group that will work together to care for and rejuvenate our natural green spaces.

The group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 2:30pm–4:30pm. Volunteers are welcome to attend at any time during this period to lend a hand.

We are also looking for volunteers who would be interested in liaising with school leadership and Claire to help lead and organise the group. If this is something you would like to be involved in, please indicate this at the link below.

Here is the LINK to register your interest and receive updates and emails about upcoming garden volunteering activities.

Happy gardening!
