Science

Year 3 & 4
Students have been exploring the fascinating world of magnets through hands-on investigations. Students have been making predictions, asking scientific questions, testing their ideas and recording observations like real scientists.
They investigated which objects are attracted to magnets, explored how magnetic force can sometimes work against gravity by suspending paperclips and tested whether magnets can work through different materials.
They discovered magnets can be pretty cool, and became magicians, making paperclips levitate!
Year 5 & 6
Students have been exploring Forces and Motion. A recent investigation challenged students to walk at a constant speed. While this initially sounded easy, students quickly discovered just how difficult it is to keep movement perfectly steady over time. Using measured distances and stopwatches, students tested whether they could travel set distances in exact time intervals. The activity led to discussions about speed, control, balance and the forces involved in movement. Students were surprised to find that even small changes in stride length or rhythm affected their results.
Students have also explored rolling objects, comparing how different shapes and surfaces affect motion. We held 'The Great Rolling Championships', and are looking forward to hearing groups defend their chosen object as the ultimate Rolling Champion, using scientific evidence and reasoning to explain why their object deserves the title.
