Specialist Classes

Japanese

Students will learn words for leisure activities in Japanese. We will create sentences with three parts which invite others to do an activity with us, such as “Let’s play tennis.” We will use culturally appropriate active listening phrases to politely show that we are listening. We will utilize flashcards and slide shows to support our learning. Students will also interact with each other in communication games which help develop fluency in our Japanese learning focus.

Digital Technologies

This term, students across all year levels are diving into the world of coding, computer systems, and digital citizenship through hands-on activities, interactive puzzles on code.org, and unplugged problem-solving games.

Hardware, Networks & Variables: Students will examine core computer components (input, output, processing, storage) and learn how devices connect to transmit data across networks. They will also work with variables to store changing values like scores or lives.

Advanced Logic & Nested Loops: Students will design and test complex algorithms combining for loops, nested loops, and multi-branching conditionals to solve multi-step problems in environments like Minecraft.

Designing & Evaluating Solutions: Students develop systematic debugging methods (desk-checking) to trace logic errors. Toward the end of the term, students set criteria to test, evaluate, and give constructive feedback on their own and peers' digital creations.
