Reading

We will continue to read The Grandest Bookshop in the World which students began reading in Term 3. We are learning more about the effects of figurative language on the reader to help us visualise the story, as well as practicing other comprehension strategies such as summarising, predicting and questioning. Students will develop their understanding of how vocabulary has been used by the author to convey
specific meaning and build their own vocabulary word banks.
After this we will move onto The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. The Last Bear is a novel about an 11-year-old girl named April who befriends a lonely, starving polar bear on a remote Arctic island. Themes of courage, resilience and environmental activism emerge in our reading of this text as students make connections between previous units from our Knowledge curriculum regarding the importance of protecting our Earth and everything that calls it home.
