Unit 1: Mary, Mother of God
This unit introduces students to Mary, Mother of God, as the supreme Christian model of faith and reflective listening. Students investigate how Mary listened, trusted, and fully responded to God's will through pivotal life events, from her courageous "yes" at the Annunciation to her steadfast presence at Calvary. By exploring key scriptural accounts, students learn how Mary continuously pondered God's mysteries in her heart. Additionally, the unit examines how the living Tradition of the Church historically honours her through unique Marian titles, holy feast days, and meditative devotions like the Angelus and the Rosary. Ultimately, students are invited to practice reflective prayer to discern God's call within their own lives.
Unit 2: Advent to Christmas - Waiting for the Messiah
Towards the end of this term, students are embarking on a rich liturgical journey through the season of Advent into Christmas. Throughout this unit, students will explore Advent as the beginning of the Church's liturgical year - a season dedicated to hopeful preparation for the coming of Christ, the Messiah. They will delve into sacred Scripture to see how historical figures like the prophet Isaiah and John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus. Finally, students will examine the profound mystery of the Incarnation—that Jesus is both fully God and fully human—and reflect on how Mary, the shepherds, and our modern faith community respond to the joyful gift of Christ's birth
