Buddy Reading in F9 and M2!
This term, F9 and M2 have been enjoying spending time together through our Buddy Reading sessions! Every fortnight, the Year 4 students from Miss Rommi’s F9 class visit their Year 2 buddies in Miss Talbot and Ms Bella’s M2 class for some special reading time.
During each session, the M2 students read aloud to their Year 4 buddy for about 10 minutes. The F9 students listen carefully, encourage their buddies and then ask them questions to check their understanding. They might ask questions such as “Who was your favourite character and why?” “What was the main problem in the story?” “What do you think might happen next?” or “Can you tell me the most important part of what you just read?”
These sessions are a wonderful way for our Year 2 students to build their reading fluency, confidence and comprehension skills in a relaxed and supportive setting. They also give our Year 4 students the opportunity to develop their leadership, communication and questioning skills, while learning how to encourage and support a younger learner.
Most importantly, Buddy Reading is a lovely chance for F9 and M2 to build connections across year levels. There have already been lots of smiles, great conversations and proud buddies. We are looking forward to continuing our reading sessions.
Book Week with Our Buddies
F9 and M2 celebrated Book Week together with some extra special buddy activities!
As part of our Reading Brings Us Together activity, buddy pairs talked about what they each love about books and discovered the things they have in common. Some shared a love of funny stories, while others connected over novels, picture books, adventures, interesting facts or favourite characters.
Each buddy pair then created a special piece of artwork to celebrate and showcase their shared love of reading.
The buddies also brought along some of their favourite picture books to share, created their own Book Week bookmarks and listened to the 2026 Book Week song together.
It was a fun way to celebrate Book Week and discover that, although we might all enjoy different kinds of books, reading gives us so much to share!
As part of our learning in Business and Economics, the Year 6 classes formed small groups and created their own businesses. They were given a $70 loan to begin their business and needed to demonstrate an understanding of consumer choice in order to choose a product or game to create, market and sell in order to make a profit and pay back their loans. Students created a range of food and drink items, made products and raffles or sideshow style games for students to enjoy. Food and drinks included bubble tea, cakes and ice cream. Products included crochet, bracelets and origami. Sideshow games involved hitting targets and shooting goals and testing your luck with a variety of raffles organised throughout the day.
On Monday 21st of September, after an extremely busy term learning about business, economics, consumer choice and the requirements of creating their own businesses, the Year 6 students put their products, games and advertising skills on show to their clientele of R-5 students. What a fantastic day it was, showcasing their learning, with all products and games proving to be a hit raising an incredible $3,365.45. The Year 6 teachers are proud of the efforts put in by their students and the enthusiasm shown throughout the learning sequence and on selling day!
