Maths at Magill

 Parent Workshop

Last week, I had the pleasure of holding my first Maths at Magill parent workshop, giving families insight into how mathematics is taught across the school. The session explored how students build understanding over time, including the importance of fluency, problem solving and developing positive learning dispositions such as being reflective, resourceful and resilient. It was a great opportunity to share not just what we teach, we also shared how we teach and the reasons behind it, all with a strong focus on building confident and capable mathematicians.

A highlight of the workshop was seeing the Year 4 students from F10 working alongside parents to share their favourite maths games. Their confidence, knowledge and ability to explain their thinking was impressive, and it was a great example of students showing confidence and leadership with their maths.

The session also provided a chance to share my own love of mathematics and the value of creating positive experiences for all learners.

A big thank you to Mrs McKnight and the F10 students for the time, thought and organisation they put into preparing for the workshop. Their contribution played a key role in making the afternoon both engaging and enjoyable for everyone involved.
