Foundation Unit

This fortnight in Phonics we have been investigating the letters k, e, u and r. Thank you to those who have been practicing their readers at home and high frequency words.
In Reading, students have been practising how to make predictions. They have been using clues from the title and pictures to make a close guess at what might happen within the text.
In Writing, students have continued to work on sound counts. Students sound out words and record the sounds they hear in the words. This week we have been learning to write a simple retell, writing about the beginning, middle and end of the text.
This fortnight in Maths, students continued working on reading numbers and using concrete materials or drawings to represent the number. Students have been practicing organising their concrete materials or drawings in a way that is easy for someone to count how many there are (subitising). They also explore capacity. Students enjoyed exploring the concept by filling containers and comparing how much they hold with sand in the sandpit.
Finally, this week students participated in their first ‘Housemate’ session. They enjoyed working with and getting to know students from all different year levels in the same school house as them.
