Co-Curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

It was great to see all the boys back out on the fields over the weekend after a big break. Often, teams can come back a bit sluggish and not as synthesised as they were before the break. Throw in some colder than usual temperatures, it would be understandable for performances to be mixed. Looking at our results from the weekend, this is far from the case for the boys from the St Patrick’s College Junior School. Our results were very strong, showing that our boys have developed strong connections in their teams and pride in the Blue, Black, and Gold. Well done boys! With only two rounds remaining, let’s maintain the fire and complete our season with strong team performances.

Back To Breen Day

This Saturday 1 August, the College will host Back to Breen Day. This is a huge day in the calendar for the whole community. A day when we celebrate all things St Patrick’s College. The day revolves around home Senior School fixtures in both Rugby and Football, with Old Boys attending for reunions, and the opportunity for the whole community to come together. I would highly recommend that all boys in the Junior School take the opportunity to attend the day, support our teams, and add to our strong sense of community.

Sportsmanship

With all the sport that has been shown on television lately, there have been numerous reports of controversy and poor player behaviour. Often our heroes set the example for how we would like to act and play, which we blindly follow. Unfortunately, from time to time, our biggest and best can also lead us astray with their behaviour. I think it is important to remember that sport is about much more than winning. Every time you step onto the field, you have the chance to show respect, courage and character. Good sportsmanship means playing by the rules, encouraging your teammates, respecting your opponents and listening to the referee, even when decisions do not go your way. The way you behave after a tough loss often says more about you than the way you celebrate a win. People may forget the score, but they will remember how you treated others. Be the kind of teammate others can rely on, the kind of opponent others respect, and the kind of player who makes your family, your school and yourself proud.
