Back to Breen: Celebrating Community in Action

As we move into Week 2, it has been wonderful to see students return to co-curricular life with energy, commitment and pride. With Back to Breen Day this Saturday, we are reminded of Edmund Rice’s call to build community through care, courage and connection. These occasions highlight what we hope for every St Pat’s student: to belong, to contribute, and to be proud of putting himself forward in the life of the College.

Our program provides rich opportunities across sport, culture and service. Whether students are competing, performing, debating, playing chess, serving others, or challenging themselves through Duke of Edinburgh, each experience asks them to step forward with confidence, humility and respect. This is where young men learn to express passion, handle challenge, support their peers and represent the values of St Patrick’s with pride. In this way, our Co-Curricular Program reflects the Edmund Rice Touchstones through inclusive community, learning, character and service.

There has already been much to celebrate, not only in results but in the way our students have represented the College. Congratulations to our First XV Rugby on their outstanding victory in Bathurst against St Stanislaus’ College last weekend. It was also pleasing to hear of the strong 16 As result and the excellent Prep A win against St Pius X, College. In Football, the program enjoyed a strong weekend, a special congratulations also goes to the First XI Football for their comprehensive win against St Andrew’s Cathedral School, which was a pleasure to witness first-hand.

Across the Junior School, teams made a positive return after the break, with students gelling well, backing one another, and showing real determination. A highlight was the 5 B Black Football team coming from 3–0 down at half-time to win 4–3, recording their first win of the season. Additionally, our Chess Program has also started strongly, with the Junior A and Intermediate A teams progressing to knockout finals this Friday, we wish all the teams the best of luck for the finals.

Looking ahead, Back to Breen Day this Saturday, will bring together students, families, staff, old boys and supporters in a wonderful celebration of College community. The First XI kick off at 10:15 AM on SPC 2, with the First XV at 3:15 PM on Breen. We are also excited to have the Drumline in action over the weekend in the lead-up to their competition on Sunday. 

Thank you to our staff, coaches, MICs, families and students for their commitment across the opening weeks of Term 3. I look forward to seeing many members of our community at Breen Oval this weekend as we continue to build confident, respectful young men who value teamwork, camaraderie, school pride, and healthy competition.
