3/4 S

Kii 3/4S families,
Welcome back to Term 4! I hope you all enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating break. We have plenty of exciting learning ahead of us as we begin our final term for the year.
As the building works continue to progress and move into their next phase, students have been taking time to reflect on their years spent learning and growing in the Prep corridor and our school garden. These much-loved spaces have been foundational learning environments for many of our students, holding a wealth of memories, discoveries and special moments. Through storytelling, reminiscing, writing and drawing, we have been honouring these spaces and the important place they hold in our shared journey as a class. It has been a lovely opportunity to look back on how far we have come and celebrate the memories made along the way.
Mathematics
Our Maths lessons have centred around division and its inverse relationship with multiplication. Students have been exploring these connections through a range of strategies, including arrays, partitioning, vertical algorithms and the bus stop method. We have been strengthening our understanding of how numbers can be broken apart and represented in different ways to solve division problems, with a particular focus on applying these strategies to worded problems and real-life situations.
Literacy
Last week, students had the wonderful opportunity to share and discuss their ideas for future upgrades to Henderson Park with Darebin City Councillors. In the lead-up to Friday afternoon’s community engagement sessions, students worked collaboratively to create posters and letters presenting their proposals. As they developed their ideas, students thoughtfully considered the diverse members of the community who use the park, including animals, older community members and parents with young children. It was wonderful to see students sharing their ideas with confidence, listening to others and recognising how their voices can contribute to positive changes within their local community.
What you can do at home::
You can support our learning in class by doing a few things:
Read: students should be reading for a sustained period of time (approximately 20 mins per night).
- Times Tables: help build number fluency by practising times tables. (a times table chart and a matrix of activities has been included with the newsletter - contact your class teacher if you would like a paper copy).
