Prep Steiner

It's hard to believe that we are in the last term of Foundation! The past two weeks have been a busy time as the children get back into the rhythm of being at school. Everyone has been learning some new songs and poems with a spring theme. You might even hear your children sing them sometimes! Each morning, we practice poems and songs with movements along with games before we head outside to play. Below is one of our new songs.
Spring is coming, spring is coming,
Birdies build your nest.
Weave together straw and feather,
Each one doing your best.
Spring is coming, spring is coming,
Flowers are waking, too.
Daisies, lilies, daffo-dillies,
All are coming through.
Spring is coming, spring is coming,
All around is fair.
Shimmer, quiver on the river,
Joy is everywhere.
In literacy the children have been working on their writing and recognition of the tricky letters that look alike, such as b and d, h and n, i and j. We have also been practicing making small words and sounding them out.
In numeracy we have been exploring the numbers 12, 13 and 14. For each number the children find a collection of something that is equal to the number and count it out. The next day the children choose something to draw and practice writing the number and drawing a collection of something that is equal to the number. We have also been practicing our numeracy skills through various games.
The children have really enjoyed exploring colours in painting as well as developing their finger knitting skills with the new wool colours. We measured the finger knitting last week and everyone's knitting contributions went all the way to the top of the stairs, almost to the doorway of the new classroom!
