Rachel - Year 2 Platypuses
Rachel (Year 2 Platypuses) had the privilege to spend time with her grandparents in Italy during the school holidays. So far, nothing new. This time, however, it was more than just a vacation; she also spent two and a half weeks at a nearby school, participating in an authentic cultural exchange.
There was a new world to discover every day at school. Rachel took part in lessons on Italian, math, history, geography, and music while sitting in well-lit classrooms and listening to teachers speak Italian. She was initially a little nervous because it's difficult to understand everything in a foreign language, but she quickly gained confidence in following with the support of her classmates and her own curiosity.
"At first, I didn't understand everything, but every day I learned something new, and by the end, I was happy to be able to speak with everyone!" she said.
She discovered new games and greetings in the hallways that were different from ours, and every little everyday gesture turned into a valuable lesson in Italian culture. There were plenty of enjoyable moments during recess. "Learning about their games and methods of operation was a lot of fun," Rachel remarked. "Every day felt like an adventure."
Every day was a fresh journey, full of learning, joy, and minor victories. She went on, "I am so excited to return next year!" "I want to do it again because it was so fantastic."
Rachel was so delighted with the experience that she has already made the decision to repeat it next year! She brings her new friends, lots of stories to share, and a greater sense of confidence in her skills back home. She was able to challenge herself, get over her shyness, learn how to adjust to new rules and cultures, and come back to school with more curiosity and enthusiasm than before.
