Throughout history, war has affected people in vastly different ways depending on the location. Anzac Day gives us the opportunity to reflect on those who served and are serving Australia in the armed forces. The Discovery Centre and The Terry Feely library have a genre section about war which does not glorify it but allows students to read books about people who have been caught up in conflict. ‘Through My Eyes’ is series of books that tell the stories of children and their experience of war. ‘Amina’ by J.L. Powers is a moving fictional account of one child’s life after surviving civil war in Somalia. The child’s family is torn apart and as a result Amina begins creating street art at great risk to her life. Official war artists and unofficial artists like Amina have tried to depict what actually happens in war inspiring courage and hope.
