Boarding House Captains - Termly Report

As Term One comes to an end, I reflect on the boarding house and acknowledge our home away from home. Despite a challenging start, we proved just how supportive and nurturing our community is. With the support of parents, teachers, and one another, we worked together, lifted each other up, and got through it as a team.

One highlight was our Valentine’s dinner, where the Year 12s staged a wedding—featuring bride Angus Rowe and groom Lily McCabe. Complete with unforgettable outfits, including clogs and red Crocs, it perfectly captured how much fun we can create in the boarding house, even on a random Wednesday night.

Across the term, events such as the Dinner Dance, House Netball, House Swimming, House Athletics, and the Footy Theme Night saw every member of the community contribute. These moments showcased the immense talent and spirit that define our boarders.

As the end of term approaches, we are preparing to say goodbye to our Head of Boarding, Mr Monk, along with Andrea and Olive. From when Finn and I first started boarding through to our final year, they have consistently supported and encouraged us, helping to foster the strong community we are proud to be part of today.

Term Two will bring both change and excitement. Finn and I are committed to continuing the events and positive culture that make our boarding house so special.

Formal dinner with Mel McDonald

This week we were fortunate to host our Term One formal dinner speaker, Mrs Mel McDonald. Mel’s presentation was focused upon the variety of what life can present. Her story told of the value in taking opportunity, persevering with your effort, and learning resilience through experience.

Boarders were inspired to capture each and every moment ahead of them and not to let their score define them. The promotion of service for others was a touching moment, with numerous examples in her life of not just doing things well, but doing the things you love to the best of your ability.

Thank you Mel for inspiring our boarders and capturing their interest for the evening, a very rewarding story and message.
