Crayfest Fishing Clinic — Port Campbell
Nine enthusiastic Fishing Club members enjoyed a fantastic whole-day excursion to Port Campbell on Sunday 22 March as part of the annual Crayfest Festival.
The group, made up of students from Years 9 to 11, spent the day exploring the Crayfest festivities before joining the 2:30pm fishing clinic training session on the Port Campbell jetty. With fine weather and clear turquoise waters, conditions were ideal for a great afternoon of fishing. Students also had the chance to learn about local marine life and fishing techniques through an educational display run by the clinic volunteers.
It was a productive session, with several students getting bites throughout the afternoon. Year 11 student Josie Wong was the standout performer of the day, landing an impressive two fish, while Year 10 student Tom Ho also got in on the action, reeling in a catch of his own. Well done to both! Not to be outdone, Year 10 student Rice Zhou hauled in what he proudly declared was a “rock fish” — which turned out to be a large rock covered in seaweed, much to the amusement of the group! For many of the students, it was a wonderful opportunity to develop their fishing skills in a relaxed and supportive environment, and the laughter and smiles on the jetty said it all.
The group also made the most of the day with a visit to the iconic Twelve Apostles, taking in the spectacular limestone stacks and breathtaking views along the coastline. Between activities, students enjoyed the local restaurants, cafés and ice cream shops — a well-earned treat after a busy day.
The Fishing Club is looking forward to another fishing trip next weekend. Stay tuned!
A huge thank you to Mr Naidu for organising and leading the excursion, and to Mr Chen for his assistance on the day. We are grateful for the time and effort our staff put into providing these wonderful experiences for our students.
Netball Report
It was another ripper game day for our College teams! Our Year 9–12 College Mavericks went up against Baimbridge, coming away with a lucky win by just 2 goals, 27–25. There were great plays down the court, with standout performances from Pip Mecham and Sophie Whitehead, who used loud voices, constant feeding, and strong intercepts. Congratulations also to Felicity and Finny, who worked exceptionally well together, pulling off some fantastic intercepts in the ring.
The College Diamonds (Year 9–12) faced Monivae Gold with a draw of 15 all, each and every player played with determination and went for every ball, best players were Ruby Hausler, who put up many well needed shots for the team as well as being a great team player.
Our College Sapphires played up against Dunkeld with a win of 15 - 11 the whole team worked so well together and tried their absolute hardest and chased every loose ball.
The College Rubies went up against Tarrington but unfortunately went down 11–7. Despite the loss, the team worked well together and fought for every loose ball, giving their all until the final whistle. Outstanding players were Jack, who used his long reach to pull in intercepts and score some incredible goals, and Rosie Bell, recognised for her strong commitment in the mid‑court.
Our Year 7–8 College Firebirds took on Monivae Maroon and had their best start yet—the best game their coaches Belle and Izzy have seen them play. Even with several players out of position, many stepped up and happily filled new roles; people stepped up and said ‘yes, I’ll play that position’. Best players were Charlotte Allen and Patty McDonald, who both played out of position in Centre and gave it everything. Honestly, every player this week deserved best on; they truly played as a team.
A huge thank you to the parents for getting the kids there each week, and to the College students for their commitment and effort. To the coaches, team managers, and umpires—nothing you do goes unnoticed. And thank you to the HNA for another well‑organised early Saturday morning.
