Director of Boarding Recruitment

We are deep into the process of appointing our next Director of Boarding, and next week we will welcome to Hamilton the final candidates to see the campus, undergo the final interviews, and meet with students on the Boarding Committee. After this process, we will work with the preferred candidate about their start date and transition.

I have been extremely pleased with the large and talented candidate pool the role has attracted. This reflects well on the culture and tone of the boarding house and reiterates that Andrew Monk leaves us in a good place. I look forward to being able to announce our new Director of Boarding in early Term Two once the recruitment process is complete.

As with most senior roles in schools, there will be a period between the departure of the incumbent and the arrival of their replacement. I am pleased to confirm that our wonderful House Parents, Lisé Lowe and Maxine Baring, have agreed to assume significant additional responsibilities during this period. For Term Two, the senior leadership of the Boarding Houses will be split with Lisé Lowe as Acting Head of Macdonald House, and Maxine Baring as Acting Head of Spiers House.

New PE Uniform 1/4 Zip

Thank you to parents who have shared the overwhelmingly positive feedback about the new PE and sports uniforms. It has been wonderful to see how they look en masse as more students make the transition. I’m particularly pleased with the added level of house identity that has come with the house-coloured strip on the PE polo; these are looking great.

One item I am less pleased with, however, is the 1/4 zip jumper top. Following a meeting with the CEO of our supplier Noone Imagewear last week, we have taken the decision to remove this item from sale in the uniform shop. The key reasons for this are a colour mismatch between this item and the other items in the uniform and the wide and boxy cut. Both the colour and the cut are different from the sample items we received in the design process.

Families who have already purchased one of these tops will be refunded or offered exchange once the replacement arrives. In the interim, students are able to continue wearing the new 1/4 zip, or will be allowed in the short term to wear the old-style soft shell. The replacement items will be a new-design soft shell and, hopefully, a mid-layer 1/4 wool performance top.

Thank you for your understanding about this change, my feeling is that it is better to make it now than to live with a product that could be even better. The puffer vest remains available for families looking for extra warmth as the weather cools down.

Open Day

This Sunday (29 March) is our Senior School Open Day. All families are welcome to attend; the day is a great chance to see areas of the school or programs that parents don’t get to see in the usual course of the school term.

If you have friends or family soon to make the crucial decision about where to send their child for secondary school, please encourage them to come along. The program runs from 10:00am to 1:00pm.

If you are a current family interested in commencing boarding, this is a great opportunity to meet the boarding staff and tour the facilities at Mryniong, open from 11am to 1pm.

Step inside the College's newest facility, The Wilma Hearn Indoor Equestrian arena with an Equestrian tour operating from 11am to 1pm.
