Have you ever heard of a worry doll? Worry dolls, also known as muñecas quitapenas (pain relief dolls), are small and sweet handmade trinkets originating from the Mayan traditions of Guatemala.

Mrs T-M read the book "The Huge Bag of Worries" to the year 1/2s in N2. The Huge Bag of Worries is about Jenny, a young girl whose worries follow her in a big blue bag. They are there when she swims, watches TV, even when she goes to the restroom! Jenny needs them to go, but who is there to help her?

On Friday the 24th of July, F2 came to N2 to support them in making worry dolls. Both classes learnt how to create and design the dolls, as well as the purpose of them. Together, the 2 classes worked collaboratively. F2 helped their younger peers tie and secure the yarn, whilst N2 picked cheerful colours of yarn to wind around their doll. Soon after, everyone had made their perfect doll friend.

The classes used wooden doll pegs, colourful yarn, cute googly eyes, markers and pipe cleaners to make their ideal worry doll. Using the yarn and markers, students truly made their worry dolls, theirs

But why did we make them? We made the worry dolls to give the year 1/2s a place where they can share the worries and lift the weight off their shoulders. After all, who wouldn't want a worry doll?
