VERMONT SECONDARY COLLEGE YEAR 12, 2025 VCE HIGH PERFORMERS

On Thursday 19th February, in our first Senior and Junior college assembly for the year, we had the great pleasure of celebrating and acknowledging the outstanding performance of students from the VCE class of 2025. It was a wonderful opportunity to present these outstanding students to the college community.

Vermont Secondary College is extremely proud of all our students for their ongoing commitment to their academic and/or co-curricular pursuits.

Students who achieved the highest study score (of 40 or above) in an individual subject, and all students who achieved an ATAR of 95+, placing them in the top 5% of the State were recognised.

In addition, we celebrated and awarded our ‘VCE Vocational Major High-Achiever’s Award’ for 2025. From our VCE Vocational Major graduating cohort, we recognized the achievements of Claire W. Claire was our first student to complete a combination of subjects that enabled her to achieve her VCE VM and receive an ATAR. She completed a VET Sport & Recreation course and attained the highest Health & Human Development score at Vermont in 2025. Unfortunately, Claire was unable to attend on the day however we congratulate Claire on being the recipient of Vermont’s VCE Vocational Major High-Achiever’s Award for 2025.

In the assembly we then recognised the 2025 students who achieved the highest study score at the College in each of the following subjects:

Special Congratulations to the VSC Dux for 2025 Aden A who achieved an exceptional ATAR of 99.75.

Note: Two students who received ATARs above 95 were unable to attend the ceremony and requested their results not be published.

At the Senior Assembly Areeba S & Caitlin S were awarded the Deakin Shield for their significant contribution to the college in their key leadership role as School Captains. The Deakin Shield was to be presented by the Hon Matt Gregg MP Federal Member for Deakin however due to another commitment he was unable to attend. I would like to thank Matt for his ongoing support of the Deakin Shield and the college.

A huge thank you goes to Laura Gerbing (Head of Senior School Compliance & Assessment) for all the preparation and time she has put into organising this significant celebratory event. Laura, your efforts are greatly appreciated!

VSC SCHOOL CAPTAINS FOR 2026

Congratulations go to the following Year 12 students Juliet O (Stirling House) and James P (Hotham House) on their appointment as VSC School Captains for 2026.

COLLEGE COUNCIL REPORT

The College Council had their first meeting of the year on Tuesday 17/2/2026. As the school year has only just started there were not as many events to discuss. The council received updates on the various events that occurred over the summer break, in particular the installation of the new classrooms, the finances and the grants received, the end of year 2025 financial reports and the 2026 college budget. The council welcomed the 2026 School Captains, Juliet O and James P to the council and both presented updates on the events of their first few weeks back at school.

The meeting was also the last meeting of the 2025 council and elections for the school council 2026 is currently underway. I would like to thank all council members for all their efforts in 2025 and in particular the outgoing staff council members Mary Zervos and Chris Paragreen, student council member Yan Chi S, and parent council members Sam Daly and Craig Lawton.

After 10 years of being on the school council, my term also ends as a parent school council member, but I would like to come back for one more year as a community council member. I would like to thank everyone with whom I had the pleasure of working with at the council level and its various committees over the years. VSC has some great staff, in particular the principal class team, which made doing the various tasks at the council very easy. I wish VSC and the 2026 council all the best for this year.

INFORMATION REGARDING RIDING TO SCHOOL

We have had a few near misses on Morack Road last year and so a reminder to students who ride to school and their parents/guardians.

For safety reasons, bikes are only to be walked on school grounds – this includes out of school hours
A helmet must be worn when riding
Children 12 years and over are not permitted to ride on the footpath
Motorised scooters are not to be ridden

We have included the following information regarding riding on footpaths from the VicRoads website:

People who are able to ride their bike on a footpath include:

children under the age of 12 (very few VSC students would fit this category!)
adults accompanying children under 12 years
Australia Post workers
those with a relevant medical certificate

When riding on a footpath a bike rider must keep to the left, give way to pedestrians and slow down if overtaking. If riding on a footpath, watch out for drivers entering and exiting driveways that may not be able to see you approaching.

VERMONT SECONDARY COLLEGE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Friday 6th MARCH

The annual VSC Athletics carnival will be held on Friday 6th March at the East Burwood Athletics Track. This is always a fantastic day where the whole school has the opportunity to come together and compete and be with friends in a supportive and friendly atmosphere. It is one of the key events on the school calendar.

All students in Years 7 to 12 are expected to attend this whole school event. There are no classes running at school and there is no ‘sign out’ option for senior students. All students are expected to attend for the entire day.

It would be great to see all students compete in at least two events and don't forget to wear your house colours. Parents and guardians are invited to attend on the day to support their children. If you have any questions about the day then please contact one of our Sports Leader, Amy Malander or Sport Assistant, Sean Gillespie.

REMINDER – END OF TERM DATE & UPCOMING PUBLIC HOLIDAY

Monday the 9th of March is a public holiday for the Labour Day long weekend.

Term One concludes on Thursday 2nd of April with a 2:30pm dismissal time. Friday 3rd of April is a public holiday for Good Friday.

Students return in Term Two on Monday 20th of April.
