Bell Shakespeare

Bell Shakespeare is a theatrical company based in NSW. Every year, the company produces two shows that are targeted towards Middle and Senior school students.

The company endeavours to tour the shows nationally, reaching into rural and remote areas where possible.

At the end of Term 3, St Philips Year 7 and 11 students were lucky to welcome the players to our school. The Year 7s saw an adapted version of “Romeo and Juliet” and the Year 11s were exposed to a play based on “Macbeth.” The cast used humour and audience participation to engage the students and communicate key lines and themes from the plays.

The timing of the visit was perfect, as it linked in with Year 7 classroom learning. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive with individual students commenting, “Humorous and entertaining,” “5-stars,” “Shakespeare is not boring” and “Super creative.” Bell Shakespeare presented the extended version of “Macbeth” at Araluen in October and it was pleasing to see many St Philips staff and students enjoying the play.

Thank you to Mrs Cook for organising the visit!
