你好 (ni hao) Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 families,

This week in Guided Inquiry and English, Grade 2 students have been learning about some of the incredible inventions and technologies that have changed the world. Students researched a range of inventions, including televisions, antibiotics, computers and the wheel, discovering when and why they were invented and how they have impacted our lives. Students worked on selecting important information from their research and recording key facts. They then used their learning to design and create informative posters about their chosen invention. It was wonderful to see students sharing their curiosity, asking questions and presenting their research in creative and engaging ways.

In Maths, we revisited our learning about place value and explored different ways that numbers can be partitioned. Students developed their understanding of standard partitioning, such as representing 356 as 300 + 50 + 6, as well as non-standard partitioning, where numbers can be broken apart in a variety of ways. Students explored how the value of each digit can be represented differently while still making the same total number. They worked with concrete materials, visual representations and written number sentences to explain their thinking. It has been fantastic to see students becoming more confident in recognising that numbers can be represented and partitioned in many different ways.

Reminders:

Hats are back! Just a reminder that students are to wear hats during lunch and recess play. If your child brings their hat home during the week, please ensure that is it placed back in their bags for the following day.
Reminder to please leave toys at home.
Please bring in a boxes of tissues for your class if you are willing and able.
School uniform colours are navy blue and orange. Please ensure your child clothing is of these colours, including Jackets.
No Junior school Pupil of the Week this week as there are no more Junior School assemblies before the end of term.
