College Sport

Secondary Basketball

The Year 7 and 8 Basketball teams have commenced their rosters, with matches played on Mondays after school. There were plenty of nerves, particularly from students new to the sport. It was pleasing to see so much encouragement from each other and team spirit.

The Year 7 team showed great improvement in their second match this week, working together as a team, and enjoying some well earned baskets.

The Year 8 team has gelled well together and have started the season strongly, including a 51-28 win against Eastside Lutheran and a 66-18 defeat of Southern Christian College.

We hope teams enjoy a fantastic season of basketball.

Primary Basketball

JSSATIS basketball is in full swing, with the College represented by two Year 3/4 teams, a Year 5 and a Year 6 team.

Uniforms were received with much excitement, and players look professional as they hit the court in recent weeks. Most Year 3/4 players are new to the game, but have been practising on the court at lunch time with great enthusiasm.

“We had a fantastic time playing against the girls from Friends school this afternoon. The girls showed real spirit for both halves and worked as a team.  I'm super proud of the girls. It was a lot of fun. I couldn’t have asked for more!”

Coach John after 3/4 Navy’s first match.

We hope the players enjoy the season, regardless of whether they are experienced or just trying basketball for the first time.

Secondary Swimming

Swimming has begun for a committed group of Year 7-10 students.  On Friday 1 August, they attended trials at the DK Hobart Aquatic Centre with swimmers from St Mary’s College, St Virgil’s College, Dominic College and Guilford Young College to gather race times in 50m events.

Last week, morning training commenced at Clarence Aquatic Centre.  This continues on Wednesday and Friday mornings for this term in preparation for the SSATIS Swimming Carnival on Thursday 28 August and SATIS Swimming Carnival on Tuesday 16 September.

This year, we are also inviting interested students to attend morning swimming training sessions for fun and fitness.
