Book Week 2025

Book Week will be celebrated across Australia from 16 - 23 August, and this is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy, adventure, comfort, delight and insight that books bring to our lives.  The 2025 theme for Book Week is ''Book An Adventure''.

The College Curriculum Leaders Amy Van Riet, Ruby Coleman, Sophie Henderson and Ellie Huxtable, along with Library and English staff have planned a range of activities to celebrate the joy of books.

Library Open Afternoon

Blind Date with a Book

Is your reading pile looking a little uninspiring?

Are there no books catching your eye?

Why not be brave and get “set up” with a book?

Mount Carmel is hosting a Blind Date with a Book at their Library Open Afternoon.

It's the perfect opportunity to add a little adventure to your reading list. Who knows, you might even find a new favourite author or genre!

All books are wrapped up, allowing for no one to judge the book by its cover. For a gold coin donation, you can choose a book with the barest of descriptions shared. All money raised will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation

Illustrator Workshop

Claire Neyland is a talented illustrator, co-publishing two books; A home for Little Penguin and Have you seen a Monotreme?

Claire is also one of our secondary Maths & Science teachers and College Alumni (Class of 2005).

Come along to the Library Open Afternoon at 4:00pm to see and hear from Claire, learning some tips along the way.

Book Week Dress Ups

Primary

To celebrate Book Week, our ELC - Year 6 students are invited to dress up as their favourite character for the Book Week Parade on Friday 22 August, and bring the book whose character they are representing. The parade is a highlight of the week, where students and staff dress up as their favourite book characters, showcasing their creativity and passion for reading.

When: Friday 22 August

Time: 9.15am for a 9.30am start

Where: College Hall on the Mezzanine

We encourage you to come and support your children as they participate in this fun event. Feel free to dress up as your favourite book character as well! Your presence will make the day even more special for the students, and it's a great way to be involved in their educational journey.

Students are permitted to wear their costumes to school and remain in them for the day, but if they choose not to dress up as a book character, full College sports uniform is to be worn.

The Parade for Primary students will be held at 9.30am in the College Hall.  Parents and carers are welcome to attend the parade, and are to be seated in the Mezzanine Area of the hall by 9:15am please.

Secondary

Whether you're inspired by timeless classics like MatildaHarry Potter, or The Cat in the Hat, or you're drawn to bold and beloved characters like Alice in Wonderland, Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games, Hazel Grace from The Fault in Our Stars, Sophie Foster from Keeper of the Lost Cities, or one of the hilarious and mischievous members of The Bad Guys - this is your chance to bring your favourite stories to life.

Students in Years 7 -10 also have the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character to celebrate Book Week. Share your costume and be in the running for a best dressed prize.

At recess, find our photographer somewhere on campus and have your photo taken in your costume for the chance to win a prize.

Students are reminded to consider what lessons they will participate in on Friday 22 August, and ensure they have appropriate and safe dress that enables full participation in classes, including footwear. For secondary students, PE uniforms are required for PE lessons.
