National Science Week
This week has seen our Primary students immerse themselves in hands-on scientific exploration as part of National Science Week celebrations. Our unique single-campus advantage has allowed us to tap into the expertise and facilities of our Secondary Science department, creating enriching learning opportunities for our younger students.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Head of Science, Mrs Lynda Hewitt, whose dedication and passion for this area of the curriculum has made these collaborative learning experiences possible, as well as the Secondary Science teachers.
We eagerly anticipate the discoveries, insights, and newfound knowledge our Primary classes will share.
ELC - Year 6 Book Week Parade
Our Primary students will come together in the hall at 9:30am on Friday, 22 August for their Book Week Parade, celebrating this year's theme 'Book an Adventure'. We ask any parent coming to watch to please be seated on the mezzanine floor by 9:15am.
Students who are dressing up are allowed to come to school and of course leave at the end of the day in their costume, but are reminded to wear appropriate footwear for safety. Those students who do not want to dress up are to wear their HPE uniform.
Detailed information about the event was distributed to all families last week with information also conveyed through Seesaw, while ELC families will receive their information via Storypark.
Arts Festival Update - Friday 5 September
Our Mount Carmel College Arts Festival is fast approaching! This exciting celebration will take place on Friday 5 September, and our dedicated staff are putting the finishing touches on all the wonderful art displays, dramatic performances, dance routines and musical presentations.
We're currently finalising the event schedule and will share this with families as soon as all details are confirmed. Keep an eye out for an upcoming EdSmart notification with full program information. Your daughter's class teacher will also reach out directly via Seesaw if any specific items are needed for performances, such as costume requirements.
If you have any questions or concerns about the Arts Festival, please feel free to contact your daughter's classroom teacher. We can't wait to showcase our students' incredible talents and creativity!
Primary Athletics Carnival - Tuesday 9 September
Our ELC through to Year 6 students will participate in this year's Primary Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 9 September. The Primary House Captains are already preparing their House Meeting presentations, and the Health & Physical Education team led by Ms Adele Larratt will be sharing more details about this exciting day shortly.
We look forward to seeing our young athletes showcase their skills and house spirit!
Tournament of Minds
With just weeks remaining until our Tournament of Minds teams present their solutions, rehearsals are in full swing and the excitement is building!
Parents/carers of students participating in this enrichment opportunity have received information about it last week but please do not hesitate to reach out to your daughter’s TOM teacher (Melanie Sluyters, Kate Fazackerley or Michelle Wall) if you are seeking further clarification
Tournament of Minds offers our students an incredible opportunity to develop critical thinking, collaborate effectively, and tackle complex challenges with creative solutions. Through this program, students build essential skills including:

Year 6 Canberra Adventure: A Journey of Learning and Growth
Our Year 6 students are growing in excitement as they know just around the corner is a trip of a lifetime for all. You are all probably aware that 5 staff and 47 girls will be embarking on an educational journey to Australia's capital city from 15 September to 19 September. This five-day excursion promises to be a highlight of their primary school experience.
We are deeply grateful to the Federal Government and the PACER team for their support in making this opportunity possible for our students, just for the sheer fact it reduced for families the cost of the trip. . Their commitment to educational experiences helps bring learning to life in ways that simply cannot be replicated in the classroom.
During their time in Canberra, students will have the incredible opportunity to witness firsthand what they have been studying throughout the term. Just as a snapshot they'll explore how our nation's capital was carefully planned and created, gaining insights into urban design and Australia's political history. Students will also observe our legal system in action, deepening their understanding of civics and citizenship in a real-world context, as we head to the High Court.
Beyond the academic benefits, this excursion represents a significant milestone in our students' personal development. Spending a week away from home without parents provides them with a valuable chance to grow as independent young people, building confidence, resilience, and life skills that will serve them well as they transition to secondary school.
I am sure the rest of the Primary will be looking forward to hearing about their adventures and seeing how this experience shapes their understanding of Australian democracy, history, and their own capabilities. This trip truly embodies our commitment to providing rich, meaningful learning experiences that extend far beyond the classroom walls.
