Hands On Learning
Hands On Learning has returned for another term with 5 new students joining the group bringing us up to a total of 10. They have been very busy continuing to fit out the Hands On Learning shed with walls, doors, skirting boards and giving it a coat of paint inside. Students have learned many new skills including cutting straight cuts and mitres accurately and using nail guns to fix timbers to walls.
Students have also been embrasing the cooking and eating together aspects of the Hands On Learning program with students helping to cook BBQ's for lunches and brownies and biscuits for morning tea. They even spent last Friday making chicken parmas and apple crumble from scratch. It was delicious!
We have also been very lucky to have 6 IBC's donated to the program thanks to Paul Strekker. These will be turned into wicking beds for the group to grow fruit and vegetables in. We are hoping that Bunnings will be able to continue their support of the program and organise a date when their projects team will be able to come and help us get the beds set up and ready to use.
Students have also been busy using recycled paper from the classrooms to create paper bricks. They have soaked shredded paper before pressing it into bricks using our brick pressers. These are great for around home to help get the firepit or wood heater started or to throw in the car when you got camping to get that campfire roaring with ease. We are hoping to have these on sale in the coming weeks (once they have dried our) at the front office to help raise money for our program.
The Cranbourne South Primary School Hands On Learning team will be running a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on SATURDAY JUNE 6, 2026 (King’s Birthday Weekend) at Cranbourne Bunnings from 8:00am-4:00pm. We would love to see you there to buy a sausage (or three) to support this fabulous school program. If you are unable to make it on the day but would still like to support us, then we are looking for the following donations:
- Coles Gift Card to buy Bread, Onions, Sauce and Napkins
- Boxes of soft drink
