Learning Diversity

Learning Diversity Leader - Ms Belinda Smith
PSG (Parent Support Group) Meetings
Thank you to all parents and carers who took the time to meet with your child’s classroom teacher and myself to discuss learning and wellbeing goals for 2026. It was a pleasure getting to know families more personally and to share information that will support the success of our students at St Bernard’s.
These conversations highlight the importance of building a strong team around each learner. When school and home work together, we create the best possible environment for every child to thrive.
If you have any questions regarding your child’s learning or wellbeing, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You are most welcome to contact your child’s teacher or myself at bsmith@stbernardscoburg.catholic.edu.au
Calm Down Strategy
This week’s calm down strategy involves creating a calm space at home.
Creating a small “calm corner” or break space at home can help children manage big emotions.
This is not a punishment space, but a quiet, safe area where your child can go to reset.
Include a few comforting items such as a soft toy, a favourite book, colouring materials, or a stress ball.
Encourage your child to use this space when they start to feel overwhelmed, upset, or frustrated.
Over time, children learn to recognise when they need a break and can use this space independently to calm their bodies and minds.
If you would like some resources/posters for this space at home, please reach out.
